MEET THE TEAM

The Dahinda General Store employs several local cashiers and really talented bakers.  All of our employees are like family and have roots in the community.  Occasionally, on our Facebook page, we highlight and acknowledge individual employees throughout the year, so be sure to "like" and "follow" us on there.  In the meantime, here are our talented culinary artists!

KEVIN BRODT

Kevin is originally from Galesburg but currently lives just up the road.  He learned to bake at home and comes from quality baking stock. He even explains that the family name means "Bread" in German (drop the "T").  Kevin's first job was in a bakery at age 16 and has been in a bakery, or the culinary field, ever since. He enjoys being in the kitchen and baking diversity; plus he even appreciates detailed recipes, too! His goal is to perfect the family recipe (his grandfather's) for Spingerle cookies.

In his free time, he enjoys being outdoors (camping, biking, and kayaking) with family and friends. He even occasionally bikes to work so be sure to watch those curves as you drive to/from Dahinda! Kevin stepped into some big shoes for us over a year ago when our previous baker retired and has been nothing short of amazing as he brought us continuity but also offered many of his own items and ideas. We're grateful he's part of the Dahinda General Store Team!

ZIKIA PEEPLES

Zikia has roots in nearby Williamsfield and has been in the kitchen since she was a little girl. She has been successfully taught the culinary arts by several generations of fantastic cooks within her own family. She has culinary experience working in the Williamsfield High School kitchen and cafeteria, YWCA, Trefzger's Bakery in Peoria Heights, and she's been with us for over a year now as well. She confesses that her favorite recipes change constantly, but is currently enjoying making our danishes and other pastries. She has a talented hand and eye for decoration and presentation, and has that creative spark that allows us to change up and offer a wide range of bakery items.

When she’s not in the Dahinda General Store kitchen, she occasionally helps out in Fritzy's Greenhouse. Additionally, she enjoys photography, music, and art. Even for a Williamsfield girl, we're so happy to have her as a member of our Dahinda General Store Family!
